visiter
no preposition
The constructions
no prepositionvisiter un lieu
Nous avons visité le musée hier.
Do not writeNous avons visité nos amis hier.
Why
Visiter is direct and is reserved for PLACES: visiter une ville, un musée, un appartement. For a person, you say rendre visite à quelqu'un or aller voir quelqu'un. « Visiter un ami » is understood, but sounds like a medical visit.
The trap for a Chinese speaker
拜訪朋友 is rendre visite à un ami, never « visiter un ami ». Chinese already separates 拜訪 and 參觀: keep that distinction in French.
