no preposition

The constructions

no prepositionécouter quelqu'un ou quelque chose

Meaning : to listen to

Elle écoute la radio le matin.

Do not writeElle écoute à la radio le matin.

no prepositionécouter quelqu'un + infinitif

Meaning : to listen to someone doing

J'écoute les oiseaux chanter.

Why

Écouter is direct: écouter la radio, écouter quelqu'un, l'écouter. « Écouter à » is a common mistake from English « listen to ». Like the other perception verbs, it takes an infinitive directly.

The trap for a Chinese speaker

聽 is direct in Chinese, so here Chinese is right and English is wrong: nothing after écouter.
