Why
Changer de, with no article after de, means to switch to another: changer de voiture, de ville, d'avis. Changer quelque chose, direct, means to alter it: changer les règles. Changer en expresses transformation. The article-less de is the most useful form, and the least known.
The trap for a Chinese speaker
換工作、換車 are changer DE travail, changer DE voiture: de, and never an article. « Changer le travail » would mean altering that particular job.
