Meaning : before a city or a specific place

Meaning : before a person or their shop
Je vais chez le médecin à dix heures.
Why
Aller followed by an infinitive forms the near future, without a preposition: je vais manger. Before a place, the preposition depends on the noun: aller à Paris, aller en Italie but au Japon, aller chez le dentiste. Chez is always used before a person, never à.
The trap for a Chinese speaker
去某人家 is aller chez quelqu'un, with chez and without « maison »: aller chez Marie, never « aller à la maison de Marie ».
