Conjunctions with the indicative

après que

Indicative

Example

Après qu'il a fini son travail, il est parti.

Do not write

Après qu'il ait fini son travail, il est parti.

Why

THE REVERSE TRAP, and it deserves to be said plainly: après que requires the INDICATIVE, because the event has taken place. Everyday usage very often puts the subjunctive, by contagion from avant que, and that use is still condemned in writing and in exams. Write « après qu'il a fini ».
