Conjunctions with the subjunctive

bien que

Subjunctive

Example

Bien qu'il pleuve, nous sortirons.

Do not write

Bien qu'il pleut, nous sortirons.

Why

The most common concessive conjunction, and always the subjunctive, even when the fact is certain: in the example, it really is raining. The concession governs the mood, not the reality of the fact.
