Pairs often confused

svp or stp in French?

Svp is for vous, stp for tu: you choose by the person, and svp when in doubt. In a DELF letter, write « s'il vous plaît » in full.

Why

Both mean the same thing, and the only difference is the pronoun hidden in the middle: vous or te. Svp goes on a sign, in an email to a colleague, to a shopkeeper; stp goes in a text to a friend or a sibling. Neither is said aloud: you pronounce the full phrase. And in an exam, neither: « s'il vous plaît », three words, with the apostrophe and the accent.
