HT or TTC in French?

HT is the price without VAT, TTC the price with it: for an individual, only the TTC counts, and it is 20% more.

Why

A shopkeeper and a company think in HT, because they recover the VAT. An individual never recovers it: what they pay is the TTC. The trap is a tradesman's quote, often written in HT with the TTC in small print: 450 HT means 540 to pay. In a shop, the question does not arise, the displayed price is TTC by law.
