Reading comprehension

DELF method: articles, letters. Justified true/false and the two-pass reading.

Complete Course  ·  Level B1

What DELF B1 expects from you. Understand everyday texts and simple press: short articles, formal letters, instructions. Identify the essential information, then find precise details.

2.  Two readings are better than one

A first quick reading for the general idea: who, what, where. Then a targeted reading, question by question, to locate each answer in the text.

3.  True/false with justification becomes central

DELF rule: your answer only counts if the choice AND the sentence from the text that proves it are both correct. Look for the exact sentence, never a rewording of your intuition.

4.  Spot the structure of the text

Connectors (but, so, however, first, then) signal where the author changes ideas. Questions usually follow the order of the text: the answer to question 3 is rarely before the answer to question 2.

5.  B1 traps

The question rewords what the text says with other words. Watch out for negations and quantities: most, some, almost. An option that copies words from the text is not necessarily the right one: check the meaning, not the words.

6.  Manage your time

About 45 minutes for several documents. Never get stuck on one question: answer what you are sure of, come back later.
