What DELF A1 expects from you. Understand very short, very simple everyday documents: signs, timetables, menus, text messages, invitations. You are asked to find one simple piece of information: a price, a date, a place, a name.

2.  Read the questions first

The answer is often a number or a name you can find without reading the whole document. The questions tell you exactly what to look for.

3.  Numbers and transparent words

Dates, prices, times and capitalized proper names can be spotted in seconds. Many French words look like English: use them as landmarks.

4.  You do not need to understand everything

A1 questions are about visible information. An unknown word is normal: never stop on a word, look for the information you need.

5.  Small words that change everything

Morning or afternoon, open or closed, free or paying, before or after. These pairs often make the difference between the right and the wrong answer: learn them well.

6.  Answer everything

An unanswered question is a point lost for sure, an attempted answer costs nothing. Never leave a box empty.
